Get ready for a dope and truly special exploration at Rock and Role: A Geology Adventure at Deception Pass led by Nick Zentner, dynamic Senior Lecturer and Professor of Geology at Central Washington University, host of PBS series Nick on the Rocks, and creator of his popular YouTube channel. This immersive intergenerational multicultural adventure is specifically for BIPOC community and their families, offering a fresh and thrilling perspective on the natural wonders of one of Washington’s most stunning landscapes and most visited state park.

Gathering around the fire pit at the outdoor amphitheater for evening discussions and stargazing promise to deepen our connection to the land and each other.

Event Details:

  • Arrival: Check-in begins at 5 p.m. on August 2.
  • Departure: Say farewell at 11 a.m. on August 4.
  • Geology Tour with Professor Nick Zentner: Saturday August 3.
  • Max Capacity: 40 people.
  • Event Fee: $90 per person includes 2 nights lodging, 2 dinners prepared by Executive Chef Wayne Johnson, and walking geology tour of the Deception Pass area with Professor Nick Zentner.
  • Age: This event is open to participants of all ages who are eager to learn and able to engage fully with the group activities. Youth 17 and under must be accompanied by an adult. While we don’t set a strict age limit, we recommend that attendees be able to participate attentively in discussions, comfortably join in walks and hikes, and contribute positively to the group experience. This ensures everyone has a rewarding and enriching adventure.
  • Video and Photography: By registering participants agree to being part of this event’s photography and video documentation.
