Virtual Travel Journal: a casual connection to the Bahamas and shark conservation

June 4 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm PDT

Let’s chillax together for an hour of dreamy adventure connection after work on Thursday, June 4th, from 6:00pm – 7:00pm PDT on Zoom.

Jillian Morris-Brake, an acclaimed marine biologist, award-winning underwater photographer, and founder of Sharks4Kids, has spent more than 20 years working directly with sharks. She’s on a mission to dismantle fear-based stereotypes that put these majestic, vital ocean guardians at risk.

During a recent dive trip to Bimini, Bahamas, to celebrate Black Futures Month with Gabby Shepard’s group, I experienced the magic of swimming with vulnerable and critically endangered Great Hammerhead, Caribbean Reef, and Atlantic Nurse sharks and a super interesting presentation from Jillian.

Sharks have roamed the oceans for hundreds of millions of years (long before trees or dinosaurs existed!), yet misconceptions and Hollywood’s 50-year-old “Jaws effect” fear-mongering films have pushed many shark species to the brink of extinction. On June 4th for one hour from sunny Bimini, Bahamas, Jillian will share how education, curiosity, responsible ecotourism, and KIDS are joining forces to rewrite that narrative.

This Virtual Travel Journal is completely kid-friendly, so please bring the kids and share this event with all the parents you know! Jillian will share photos, information, stories, and educational resources to inspire you and the next generation of ocean advocates (i.e. kids) that you invite for the hour.

Come find out:

  • Did a shark really touch my head?
  • What’s it like to swim with Great Hammerhead sharks?
  • Do Lemon sharks smell like lemons?
  • Are Tiger sharks yellow?
  • What do kids say Lemon sharks feel like?
  • Can guided shark diving actually save local coastal economies?

Pull up for this free community gathering and find out on Thursday, June 4, 6:00pm – 7:00pm PDT. Bring your dinner, evening sip, and questions.

We’ll also have a giveaway!
