Roots, Rocks, and Ripples: The Stories We Wrote in 2025

Looking back at our 2025 season, we don’t just see a calendar of dates. We see a tapestry of moments where we learned to feel safer, more confident and capable, and more able to relax into feeling joy in the outdoors. It was a year defined by how we supported each other along the way, not by where we went or how fast we got there.

Building Confidence from the Ground Up

We started the season by stripping away the intimidation factor. We gathered to demystify the gear that keeps us warm and safe. That sense of empowerment carried us through to a workshop focused on our personal safety and self-defense not only while outdoors but throughout our daily lives, reminding us that we carry within our voices and bodies the capabilities of expressing boundaries and protecting our personal space.

We took that confidence into green spaces, where we practiced the art of reading the land without navigational aids, treating injuries with wilderness first aid that’s mindful of melanated skin and problematic racist medical myths, and even learning how nature heals itself and us through wild plant medicine. We helped community bridge the understanding that mental state, knowledge, and intuition are often more life-saving than equipment.

Then, we moved. 2025 was a year of kinetic energy. Team Brown Girl Magic rallied together for the second year competing in Ski to Sea, Bellingham’s largest event, a multi-sport relay race from Mount Baker to Bellingham Bay. We spent evenings harnessing the wind on sailboats, and we committed to being safer on the water through learning technical skills of sea kayaking.

As is often the case, the most magical moments were probably the quietest ones. We’ll remember nights spent paddling in the darkness, watching the water light up beneath our paddles with bioluminescence – a life reminder that there’s light even in our darkest depths and hours.

Deepening Our Roots

Between the adrenaline, the marveling, and the learning, we found time to just be. We retreated to beautiful spaces for nature immersion and slept under the stars at community campouts where the only agenda was connection. We explored Earth’s ancient history during geology adventures around Ellensburg and Mount St. Helens, touching rocks that tell the story of millions of years.

Whether we were backpacking to practice new skills or just sharing a meal at a campsite, the pearl of wisdom was: Nature’s in our bones, and we’re stronger when we experience the natural world together.

Join us in creating memorable experiences in 2026

The stories of 2025 are part of a root system that’ll bloom exciting experiences this year. We’re ready to reach deeper, listen more closely to the natural world and each other, express our authentic selves, and share the learning… together.
