SUMMARY:Introduction to Wild Plant First Aid for Hikers and Backpackers: Spring Edition
DESCRIPTION:Our ancestral roots in the dirt and the plants growing around us are ancient beyond record. Erosion\, erasure\, epistemicide\, modern life\, and concrete jungles combine to sever those bonds. The result: our feeling disconnected from the lands and waters that hold us. \nIf you wanna shake up sleepy ancestral curiosity and feel more oneness with nature\, sign up. \nConnect me! \nWe’ll share snacks and knowledge about the abundant plants\, trees\, and lichens across the Pacific Northwest that you can ethically harvest for health and healing\, and share book resources that can help you continue discovering\, learning\, and sharing. \n \nDuring this humble path towards reconnection\, we’ll meander through the park exploring leaves\, smell sap\, and discover ways the forest provides\, organically growing a closer relationship with nature and the natural world. \nWe’ll talk about the basics of identifying healing plants\, spotting toxic look-alikes\, harvesting with deep respect for the ecosystem\, and reciprocity. It’s fun learning about natural remedies for the typical bumps\, scrapes\, and ailments that occur while hiking and backpacking. \nTopics to look forward to: \n\nPoultices for infections\, sprains\, and bruises\nAntibacterial wound washes\nHerbal sprain remedies\nFinding plants that naturally keep insects away\nSoothing sunburns and dry skin with plant medicine\nAntifungal soaks straight from the forest\nUsing plants for pain and inflammation 101\nPracticing safe knife handling\n\n \nBrings & materials: \n\nA small day pack to carry your lunch\, drink\, and items\nComfortable outdoor shoes for moving around the park\nPen and paper (or your phone) for taking notes\nMake sure you’re bringing plenty of water to drink\, plus a little extra to use during the workshop\nEveryone’s receiving a 100% cotton bandana from us\nIf you don’t already own a good\, sharp\, safe knife that holsters in a sheath\, you’ve got the option to add a Morakniv Companion SRT (S) during registration. It’s a nice Swedish knife\, and we’ll hand it to you at the workshop\n\nDetails: \n\nDate: April 25\, 2026\nTime: 11am to 4pm\nLocation: Tolt-MacDonald Park (parking and meeting logistics provided by email)\nContribution: $20 per person\nAge: 15+ (youth must come accompanied by an adult who’s 21+)\nIntimate Group Size: 15 people\nRegister by: April 15\nLeadership team: Lindsay Huettman and Denice Rochelle\n\nGet me there! \nSign me up

SUMMARY:Virtual Travel Journal: a casual connection to Catalina Island
DESCRIPTION:Let’s chillax together for an hour of dreamy adventure connection after work on Tuesday\, April 28th. \nOur friend Nicole Snell recently returned from a solo hike along the Trans-Catalina Trail (TCT) and we’ve asked her to share this journey with us! \nNicole is lead personal safety instructor with IMPACT Personal Safety and owner of Girls Fight Back AND one of the empowering instructors for our Town to Trails: From Fear to Fearless workshop on May 16\, 2026. \nLocated almost 22 miles off the coast of Southern California\, Santa Catalina Island (Pima by the Pima Tongvan people who lived there thousands of years ago) charms visitors with breathtaking ocean views\, gentle hills\, stark cliffs\, free-roaming Bison with a unique film industry backstory\, awesome scuba diving\, and more. \nThe island’s Trans-Catalina Trail is as rugged as the island is beautiful – known for steep ups and downs\, intense sun exposure\, and need for some organizational prowess. \n⛰️ The gathering is free\, but we still need you to sign up so we can send you the Zoom link. \nSign me up! \n \nDid Nicole suffer exposure? Cross paths with the island’s famous free-roaming Bison? Did she have to protect her suppers from 5-pound endemic Island Fox ? How did her legs survive a trail notorious for having zero switchbacks? And did she partake in the island’s famous Buffalo Milk cocktail to celebrate her accomplishment? \nPull up for this free community gathering and find out on Tuesday\, April 28\, 6:30pm – 7:30pm PDT. Bring your supper\, evening sip\, blanket\, and questions. \n \nNicole will share her Virtual Travel Journal photos\, stories\, and tips to inspire curiosity and promote the heart-opening and mind-expanding transformations that travel is known for. \nTake me to Catalina Island!
