SUMMARY:Steady on the Waves: BIPOC Essentials of Sea Kayaking
DESCRIPTION:Our History is Tied to the Water\nWe’ve always been people of the water. From the ingenious Arctic hunting techniques developed by Indigenous northern cultures to the skilled maritime labor and coastal navigation of African and Indigenous ancestors\, our connection to the sea is deep and foundational. While many of us have faced barriers to getting out on the waves in recent generations\, this space is a reminder that the water is part of our heritage. We’re not just learning a new skill; we’re returning to a place where we’ve always belonged. \n\nhttps://thebronzechapter.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Sea-kayaking.mp4\n\n\nThe Magic of the Blue Mind\nThere’s a reason we feel pulled toward the horizon. It’s what scientists call Blue Mind\, a meditative\, calming state our brains enter when we’re near or on the water. When you’re in a kayak\, just inches from the surface\, the rhythmic motion of your paddle and the gentle pulse of the tide work together to lower stress and quiet the noise of daily life. It’s a natural reset for the nervous system. It’s not just a workout; it’s medicine for the soul. \nGet me on the bay \n  \nWhat to Expect\nWe’ve partnered with the Community Boating Center Bellingham to get Community out on the water in a way that feels safe\, supportive\, and fun. You don’t need any experience at all to join us. You don’t even have to know how to swim. Really! \nThere isn’t a required prerequisite to take this class; however\, taking First Splash first is a great way to get more comfortable in a sea kayak and find your rhythm with paddle strokes. This session is designed to give you the fundamental tools you need to safely sea kayak on your own. We’ll cover the gear you need to know\, efficient paddle strokes\, and how to master entry and exit maneuvers. We’ll also cover critical skills like cold water safety and on-water communication to keep you and your group connected. This class is a prerequisite for Part 3 of our series. \n\nYour Kayaking Journey: From First Splash to Self-Reliant\nThis class is the second of a three-part series designed to methodically grow your skills. You aren’t required to sign up for all three\, but they’re built to take you from your first dip to total confidence. \n\nPart 1: First Splash – A gentle introduction to equipment and basic paddling.\nPart 2: Essentials of Sea Kayaking (This Class!) – Move toward independence. Learn the strokes and maneuvers needed to kayak safely on your own\, including cold water safety and communication.\nPart 3: Rescues & Recoveries – The ultimate confidence builder. Learn how to rescue yourself and others\, so you can show up as a capable leader and partner on the water.\n\nLet’s paddle\n  \n\nQuick Details\n\nLocation: Bellingham Bay (Fairhaven)\nDate: June 27\, 2026\nTime: 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm\nCost: $45 per person\nCapacity: 12 people max\nAges: 16+\n\nKnow Before You Go\n\nSafety & Gear: We’ve got you covered. All equipment\, including your kayak and Personal Flotation Device (PFD)\, is provided.\nWhat to Wear: You’ll receive clothing recommendations to keep you dry and comfortable once you’ve registered.\nAccessibility: Participants will need to be able to transition to and from the dock or shore into a sea kayak. If you’ve got specific questions about physical movements or accessibility\, the team at info@boatingcenter.org is wonderful and happy to help.\n\nSign me up

SUMMARY:Glowing Spirits: BIPOC Bioluminescence Kayak Tour on the Bay
DESCRIPTION:Our History is Tied to the Water\nWhile 74% of communities of color in the U.S. live in nature-deprived areas\, our history tells a different story. We’ve always been people of the coast\, the river\, and the sea. From ancestral navigation using the stars and the sea’s own light to the maritime traditions that sustained our people for generations\, the water is our home. This guided tour isn’t just about seeing something cool; it’s about returning to a place in the natural world that’s long been part of our heritage. \n\n\nThe Magic of the Blue Mind\nBioluminescence—the light produced by living organisms—is pure imagination come to life. As we glide through the dark water\, every stroke of the paddle wakes up glowing plankton\, creating a trail of light in our wake. It’s a sensory experience that leans into Blue Mind theory\, pulling us out of the stress of the concrete jungle and into a state of awe. This isn’t just a tour; it’s a reset for your nervous system and a reminder of the magic that exists in the natural world. \nShow me the glow \n  \nWhat to Expect\nWe’ve partnered with the Community Boating Center Bellingham to lead this guided experience. This isn’t a formal class\, but a communal journey through the glowing waters of Bellingham Bay. Whether you’re a total novice or a seasoned paddler\, you’re welcome here. You don’t even need to know how to swim to join the fun. \nOur time together flows with a welcome circle\, followed by a quick introduction to the gear and paddle strokes. We’ll go over safety and our route before launching towards darkness to play in the light. We use tandem (2-person) sea kayaks for maximum stability. If you’re coming with your crew\, choose your boat partner wisely—but don’t worry if you’re coming solo; you’ll find plenty of friendly faces here. \nQuick Details\n\nLocation: Bellingham Bay (Fairhaven)\nDates: June 27\, 2026\nTime: 8:30pm – 11:30pm\nCost: $50 per person\nCapacity: 12 people max – these tours are notorious for filling fast!\nAges: 10+ (Ages 10-16 must be accompanied by an adult)\n\nI want to see the magic\n  \nKnow Before You Go\n\nSafety & Gear: We provide the stable tandem kayaks\, paddles\, and Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs).\nClothing: Plan for your feet\, calves\, and hands to get wet. You’ll receive clothing recommendations to keep you warm and cozy\, plus suggested comfort items (like snacks\, towel\, and change of clothes)\, after you register.\nAges & Ratios: If you’re bringing kids\, we require at least a 1:1 adult-to-child ratio for children who can’t paddle on their own or share paddling a boat responsibly with an adult partner.\nAccessibility: Participants will need to be able to transition to and from the dock or shore into a sea kayak. If you’ve got specific questions about physical movements or accessibility\, the folks at info@boatingcenter.org are happy to help.\n\nSign me up
