SUMMARY:In Rhythm with the Water: Sea Kayak Rescues & Recoveries
DESCRIPTION:Our History is Tied to the Water\nWe’ve always been people of the water. From the ingenious Arctic hunting techniques developed by Indigenous northern cultures to the skilled maritime labor and coastal navigation of African and Indigenous ancestors\, our connection to the sea is deep and foundational. While many of us have faced barriers to getting out on the waves in recent generations\, this space is a reminder that the water is part of our heritage. We’re not just learning a new skill; we’re returning to a place where we’ve always belonged. \n\nhttps://thebronzechapter.org/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/Rescues-Recoveries.mp4\n\n\nThe Magic of the Blue Mind\nThere’s a reason we feel pulled toward the horizon. It’s what scientists call Blue Mind\, a meditative\, calming state our brains enter when we’re near or on the water. When you’re in a kayak\, just inches from the surface\, the rhythmic motion of your paddle and the gentle pulse of the tide work together to lower stress and quiet the noise of daily life. It’s a natural reset for the nervous system. It’s not just a workout; it’s medicine for the soul. \nBuild my confidence \nWhat to Expect\nWe’ve partnered with the Community Boating Center Bellingham to get Community out on the water in a way that feels safe\, supportive\, and fun. You don’t need any experience at all to join us. You don’t even have to know how to swim. Really! \nIn this final part of our series\, we’re focusing on the skills that make you a truly self-reliant paddler. We’ll be on and in the water throughout this class\, starting with a wet exit practice in the shallows so everyone feels comfortable. From there\, we’ll cover paddle float and cowboy self-rescues\, the assisted T-Rescue\, and practice bracing and edging techniques that keep you upright. Understanding the limits of both yourself and your boat is the secret to staying safe and having fun. Please note: Part 2 (Essentials) is a prerequisite for this class. \n\nYour Kayaking Journey: From First Splash to Self-Reliant\nThis class is the final piece of our three-part series. While you can take these at your own pace\, this session is designed to turn the skills you’ve learned into lasting confidence. \n\nPart 1: First Splash – A gentle introduction to equipment and basic paddling.\nPart 2: Essentials of Sea Kayaking – Move toward independence. Learn the strokes and maneuvers needed to kayak safely on your own.\nPart 3: Rescues & Recoveries (This Class!) – The ultimate confidence builder. Learn how to rescue yourself and others\, so you can show up as a capable leader and partner on the water.\n\nGrow my skills\n  \n\nQuick Details\n\nLocation: Bellingham Bay (Fairhaven)\nDate: August 22\, 2026\nTime: 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm\nCost: $25 per person\nCapacity: 12 people max\nAges: 16+\n\nKnow Before You Go\n\nSafety & Gear: All standard equipment\, including your kayak\, wetsuit\, and Personal Flotation Device (PFD)\, is provided.\nPersonal Gear: We’ll be practicing in the water. If you have your own wetsuit or drysuit\, feel free to bring it.\nYour Own Boat: If you’d like to learn in your own kayak\, please email the team at info@boatingcenter.org to let them know ahead of time.\nAccessibility: Participants will need to be able to transition to and from the dock or shore into a sea kayak and be comfortable entering the water for rescue practice. For specific accessibility questions\, the folks at CBCB are happy to help.\n\nSign me up

SUMMARY:Glowing Spirits: BIPOC Bioluminescence Kayak Tour on the Bay
DESCRIPTION:Our History is Tied to the Water\nWhile 74% of communities of color in the U.S. live in nature-deprived areas\, our history tells a different story. We’ve always been people of the coast\, the river\, and the sea. From ancestral navigation using the stars and the sea’s own light to the maritime traditions that sustained our people for generations\, the water is our home. This guided tour isn’t just about seeing something cool; it’s about returning to a place in the natural world that’s long been part of our heritage. \n\n\nThe Magic of the Blue Mind\nBioluminescence—the light produced by living organisms—is pure imagination come to life. As we glide through the dark water\, every stroke of the paddle wakes up glowing plankton\, creating a trail of light in our wake. It’s a sensory experience that leans into Blue Mind theory\, pulling us out of the stress of the concrete jungle and into a state of awe. This isn’t just a tour; it’s a reset for your nervous system and a reminder of the magic that exists in the natural world. \nShow me the glow \n  \nWhat to Expect\nWe’ve partnered with the Community Boating Center Bellingham to lead this guided experience. This isn’t a formal class\, but a communal journey through the glowing waters of Bellingham Bay. Whether you’re a total novice or a seasoned paddler\, you’re welcome here. You don’t even need to know how to swim to join the fun. \nOur time together flows with a welcome circle\, followed by a quick introduction to the gear and paddle strokes. We’ll go over safety and our route before launching towards darkness to play in the light. We use tandem (2-person) sea kayaks for maximum stability. If you’re coming with your crew\, choose your boat partner wisely—but don’t worry if you’re coming solo; you’ll find plenty of friendly faces here. \nQuick Details\n\nLocation: Bellingham Bay (Fairhaven)\nDates: August 23\, 2026\nTime: 7:30pm – 10:30pm\nCost: $50 per person\nCapacity: 12 people max – these tours are notorious for filling fast!\nAges: 10+ (Ages 10-16 must be accompanied by an adult)\n\nI want to see the magic\n  \nKnow Before You Go\n\nSafety & Gear: We provide the stable tandem kayaks\, paddles\, and Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs).\nClothing: Plan for your feet\, calves\, and hands to get wet. You’ll receive clothing recommendations to keep you warm and cozy\, plus suggested comfort items (like snacks\, towel\, and change of clothes)\, after you register.\nAges & Ratios: If you’re bringing kids\, we require at least a 1:1 adult-to-child ratio for children who can’t paddle on their own or share paddling a boat responsibly with an adult partner.\nAccessibility: Participants will need to be able to transition to and from the dock or shore into a sea kayak. If you’ve got specific questions about physical movements or accessibility\, the folks at info@boatingcenter.org are happy to help.\n\nSign me up

SUMMARY:Luminous Collective: BIPOC Bioluminescence MegaSUP Tour on the Bay
DESCRIPTION:Our History is Tied to the Water\nWhile 74% of communities of color in the U.S. live in nature-deprived areas\, our history tells a different story. We’ve always been people of the coast\, the river\, and the sea. From ancestral navigation using the stars and the sea’s own light to the maritime traditions that sustained our people for generations\, the water is our home. This guided tour isn’t just about seeing something cool; it’s about returning to a place in the natural world that’s been part of our heritage since the beginning. \n\n\nThe Magic of the Blue Mind\nBioluminescence – the light produced by living organisms – is pure imagination come to life. \nGet me on the water \nWhat to Expect\nWe’ve partnered with the Community Boating Center Bellingham to lead this immersive\, guided nighttime experience. This isn’t a formal class\, but a communal journey through the glowing waters of Bellingham Bay. More active than a traditional guided paddle\, you’ll move\, explore\, and directly interact with bioluminescent waters. Whether you’re a total novice or a seasoned paddler\, you’re welcome here. You don’t even need to know how to swim to join the fun. \nWhat makes this guided tour special is Community Boating Center’s new MegaSUPs! These are massive\, stable\, floating platforms that can accommodate 4 to 10 guests each. They transform a typically solo activity into a high-energy\, shared adventure. Our time together flows with a welcome circle\, an introduction to the gear\, and a safety briefing before we launch towards darkness to play in the light. Because we’re on big boards\, it’s a unique way to connect\, laugh\, and experience the magic of the bay as one collective. \nWearing wetsuits\, you’ll be able to safely slip into the water\, awakening glowing organisms with every splash and stroke. \nParticipants should be comfortable maintaining balance (standing or sitting) on a giant paddleboard. Our group will work together to steadily paddle for about 40 minutes to reach the best location to experience the living light. \nQuick Details\n\nLocation: Bellingham Bay (Fairhaven)\nDate: August 29\, 2026\nTime: 7:30 pm – 10:30 pm\nCost: $50 per person\nCapacity: 8-10 people depending on size of individuals (4 adults per board is typical; kids can be incorporated)\nAges: 10+ (Ages 10-16 must be accompanied by an adult)\n\nJoin the collective glow\n  \nKnow Before You Go\n\nSafety & Gear: We provide the MegaSUPs\, paddles\, wetsuits\, and personal flotation devices (PFDs). If you have your own wetsuit or drysuit let CBCB know. These boards are incredibly stable and can support up to 1\,700 pounds each.\nClothing: You’ll receive clothing recommendations plus suggested comfort items (like snacks\, a towel\, and a change of clothes) after you register.\nAges & Ratios: If you’re bringing kids\, we require at least a 1:1 adult-to-child ratio for children who can’t paddle on their own or share the space responsibly with the group.\nAccessibility: Participants will need to be able to transition to and from the dock or shore onto the MegaSUP platform. If you’ve got specific questions about physical movements or accessibility\, the team is wonderful and happy to help.\n\nSign me up
