SUMMARY:Camping Equipment Demystified
DESCRIPTION:NEW DATE: Saturday\, May 9\, 2026 | REI Seattle\n\n\n\nMysteries can be thrilling in books and movies but they’re often barriers when it comes to camping\, hiking\, fishing\, and backpacking. The solution is Camping Equipment Demystified! It’s like a petting zoo for gear and guidance hosted by super friendly nature nerds. \nMoms\, bring your kids! Grown kids\, bring your moms! Rewrite your outdoor narratives and change your family’s outdoor legacy.  \nIf you’re tired of looking at the photos and want to be in the photos\, join us. \n\n\n\nYou feel drawn to the outdoors. You want the peace. You want the mental reset. You want to see your kids disconnect from screens and connect with the land and water. \n\n\n\nIt feels overwhelming: Trying something new – or restarting a favorite activity – is easier with a little help from friends.  \n\n\n\n\n\nOur goal is to get you where you wanna be: Camping Equipment Demystified is a resource hub where you’ll find encouragement to take your first (or next) step. Whether solo\, with friends\, or leading your family\, we’re here to help you feel safe\, comfortable\, and undeniably capable. \n\n🌿 The Experience: Courage\, Community & Gear\n\n\n\nThis isn’t a sales pitch. It’s a skill share. Hosted by The Bronze Chapter at REI’s Seattle flagship store\, this is a Black-led\, high-energy\, judgment-free zone. We’re creating a brave space where adults\, youth\, and families of color can ask ALL the questions. You won’t feel self-conscious here. \n\n\n\nWe’ve curated a massive collection of items for you to touch\, test\, zip\, and click. Like we said\, a petting zoo for gear and guidance. But more importantly\, we’ve gathered a community of skilled volunteers who look like you and want you to experience the outdoors in magical ways. \n  \n\nSIGN ME UP! \n  \n\n🛠️ Hands-On Learning Stations (Touch It\, Try It\, Trust It)\n\n\n\nDon’t just look at pictures. Gian’s a father\, chef\, angler\, and guide who’s rewriting the story of who belongs on the river. He’s here to show you that fly fishing is for everyone. As a dad who fishes with his own kids\, he’s passionate about getting the next generation on the water. Come meet Gian. Check out the equipment. See some incredibly beautiful flies (tying is an art form!) and learn the proper way to handle fish from catch to release. This is a rare chance to connect with a Black fly fishing expert about resources\, technique\, and the art of the cast. Get to know Gian through this TotemBridge film and Out & Back episode. \nDepartment of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) Connect with Larry Delgado. He’s the DFW Diversity Equity and Inclusion Manager and he’s championing a major shift in who uses our public lands. DFW manages hundreds of water access points and wildlife areas and Larry’s here to make sure our community knows these spaces are ours. He’s doing the work of advocacy to connect you directly to the land and water available for your fishing\, hunting\, and joy. Come grab some swag and get the map to your next adventure.\nOutdoor Equity Coalition (OEC) Meet some folks from the Outdoor Equity Coalition. They’re rewriting the script on outdoor leadership by offering paid internships\, stipends\, and mentorships for our youth. Don’t find yourself later wishing you’d started with us today. \nTogether\, let’s turn “I wish I knew how” into “Watch me do this.” \n\nWhat the Community is Saying:\n\nExactly what I needed\, a way to learn about all the basic equipment in one place from friendly people who look like me. No mansplaining. No judgment. And I won a dope pair of gloves in the drawing. — G. Jackson \nIt was great to connect with other people of color and get a lot of information about things that immediately interested me\, but also things that I was not expecting. — C. Miranda \nThe water station was very helpful… I usually just carry a hydration bladder but it was useful to know about how to filter and treat in case I don’t have access to a clean water source. — L. Chen \nI didn’t know they had 1-person tents\, I only ever saw them for 4 people. — I. Lewis \nI’ve never heard of or seen a workshop like this before led by people of color! — A. Martin \n  \nYES! I Want Confidence
