DESCRIPTION:Our History is Tied to the Water\nWhile 74% of communities of color in the U.S. live in nature-deprived areas\, our history tells a different story. We’ve always been people of the coast\, the river\, and the sea. From ancestral navigation using the stars and the sea’s own light to the maritime traditions that sustained our people for generations\, the water is our home. This guided tour isn’t just about seeing something cool; it’s about returning to a place in the natural world that’s been part of our heritage since the beginning. \n\n\nThe Magic of the Blue Mind\nBioluminescence – the light produced by living organisms – is pure imagination come to life. As we glide through the dark water\, every stroke of the paddle wakes up glowing plankton\, creating a trail of light in our wake. It’s a sensory experience that leans into Blue Mind theory\, pulling us out of the stress of the concrete jungle and into a state of awe. This isn’t just a tour; it’s a reset for your nervous system and a reminder of the magic that exists in the natural world. \nGet me on the water \nWhat to Expect\nWe’ve partnered with the Community Boating Center Bellingham to lead this immersive\, guided nighttime experience. This isn’t a formal class\, but a communal journey through the glowing waters of Bellingham Bay. More active than a traditional guided paddle\, you’ll move\, explore\, and directly interact with bioluminescent waters. Whether you’re a total novice or a seasoned paddler\, you’re welcome here. You don’t even need to know how to swim to join the fun. \nWhat makes this guided tour special is Community Boating Center’s new MegaSUPs! These are massive\, stable\, floating platforms that can accommodate 4 to 10 guests each. They transform a typically solo activity into a high-energy\, shared adventure. Our time together flows with a welcome circle\, an introduction to the gear\, and a safety briefing before we launch towards darkness to play in the light. Because we’re on big boards\, it’s a unique way to connect\, laugh\, and experience the magic of the bay as one collective. \nWearing wetsuits\, you’ll be able to safely slip into the water\, awakening glowing organisms with every splash and stroke. \nParticipants should be comfortable maintaining balance (standing or sitting) on a giant paddleboard. Our group will work together to steadily paddle for about 40 minutes to reach the best location to experience the living light. \nQuick Details\n\nLocation: Bellingham Bay (Fairhaven)\nDate: August 29\, 2026\nTime: 7:30 pm – 10:30 pm\nCost: $50 per person\nCapacity: 8-10 people depending on size of individuals (4 adults per board is typical; kids can be incorporated)\nAges: 10+ (Ages 10-16 must be accompanied by an adult)\n\nJoin the collective glow\n  \nKnow Before You Go\n\nSafety & Gear: We provide the MegaSUPs\, paddles\, wetsuits\, and personal flotation devices (PFDs). If you have your own wetsuit or drysuit let CBCB know. These boards are incredibly stable and can support up to 1\,700 pounds each.\nClothing: You’ll receive clothing recommendations plus suggested comfort items (like snacks\, a towel\, and a change of clothes) after you register.\nAges & Ratios: If you’re bringing kids\, we require at least a 1:1 adult-to-child ratio for children who can’t paddle on their own or share the space responsibly with the group.\nAccessibility: Participants will need to be able to transition to and from the dock or shore onto the MegaSUP platform.
