September Camp at Seal Rock Campground (September 22-24, 2023)

The Bronze Chapter is partnering again with Outdoor Asian Washington and Olympic National Forest to offer a POC-centered rain-or-shine car camping experience along the serene and salty shore of Hood Canal. All The Bronze Chapter’s programs are zero drama zone, queer welcoming, and educational. This family-friendly (ages 5+) camp is appropriate for newer car campers as well as those with advanced skills who are community-minded and want to spend time together growing a more skilled BIPOC outdoor community. Registration is required and camp details will be emailed to registrants.

The Bronze Chapter campers will be self-supporting (campers bring all equipment needed to support themselves outdoors). September can bring any weather — by signing up you agree to commit to attend, be prepared, and be in good cheer. This supportive space is a great opportunity to learn to use your new equipment, practice with a new gear set-up, and ask questions and get answers about anything related to camping (or backpacking).

Seal Rock is an extremely popular campground located in Brinnon, WA, on the shoreline of Hood Canal. With beautiful mountain and water views, this campground is especially enjoyed because it’s one of the few national forest campgrounds located on salt water with harvestable oysters for public  use.

Contrary to its name, Hood Canal is not a canal. It’s the only salt water fjord in the continental United States and it offers a unique combination of spectacular scenery and the culinary bounty of the sea. Hood Canal is famous for oysters.

Campground amenities include potable water, flush toilets, electricity (in the restrooms), picnic tables, and fire pits.

Guests can camp in their cars, tents, or Class B Sprinter-van style vehicles under 21 feet; however, no Class A or C, travel/towed trailers, pop-up trailers or 5th wheels are allowed and no use of generators is permitted. No dogs at this camp.

Please consider the identities you hold and understand The Bronze Chapter’s Mission and Values in centering all people of color and our families in outdoor skill-sharing, knowledge-sharing, and outdoor recreation before registering to camp. September can bring any weather — by signing up you agree to commit to attend, be prepared, and be in good cheer. Registration is free.
